Center for Alternatives in Community Justice (CACJ) The Center for Alternatives in Community Justice (CACJ) is a small non-profit, United Way Agency with five paid staff and numerous volunteers. CACJ began in 1976 as a grass roots effort to address the problems faced by offenders re-entering the community. Its mission is to serve society by working with the community and justice system to promote, develop, and implement effective alternatives that preserve human dignity, restore, heal and empower individuals. Numerous local, state, and private sources, as well as Centre County United Way, fund the agency's services. At present, CACJ provides Centre County's Youth Aid Panel; The Centre County Bail Agency; Court-Mandated Custody Mediation; and Education, Referral, and Training; among other justice/court-related mediation services.
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all agency operations; supervising employees; attending county and state meetings; serving on various advisory boards and committees associated with the agency's mission; providing direct court-connected mediation services; playing a key role with the board in fundraising; and working closely with the director of Centre County United Way. The successful candidate will possess a high level of interpersonal skills, and a history of working with different/diverse offices of the court system. A strong background and commitment to alternative dispute resolution, restorative justice, and mediation is essential. Qualifications should include a minimum bachelor's degree in criminal justice or human services; and at least five years' supervisory experience. Ideally, an applicant will have formal training in mediation across a variety of contexts.
The Executive Director's position is currently 32 hours per week with a flexible schedule, and limited health and retirement benefits.
Salary is negotiable. Start date is January 1, 2019; however, availability to shadow the current Executive Director part-time, as agreed upon by the candidate and the agency's board of directors, will be critical to a smooth transition in administration.
