POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking an HR Specialist to join our team of professionals.

Duties Include:

  • Manages the Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committee (APT) process and ensures all appointment requests and changes are processed, as approved. Provides guidance to Department Chairs, committee members and HWCOM Human Resources regarding APT procedures, as needed.
  • Manages all Community Based (Non-Paid) Faculty appointments for HWCOM. Responsible for ensuring that all necessary paperwork has been received and properly vetted through the department and APT committee prior to processing all necessary actions in the FIU system. Responsible for maintaining the HWCOM database and conducting appropriate follow ups for all Community Based Faculty.
  • Responsible for a variety of Human Resources actions including maintaining spreadsheets regarding Community Based faculty, Secondary Appointments, Vice Chairs and Affiliate Dean list to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Serves as a backup to the Search and Screen process and provides support for the committee meetings. Adheres to all University policies as well as state and local laws, including the Sunshine Law.
  • Serves as backup to the separation process for faculty, administrative, staff and temporary positions for the HWCOM. Notifies key departments of separation, collects and submits separation documents, and schedules exit interviews.
  • Ensures all clinical/medical licenses, specialty and board certification for all clinical faculty and staff are entered accurately in PantherSoft. Issues reports, conducts analysis and communicates with employees to ensure no clinical/medical license or board certification expires.
  • Participates in identifying, developing, and coordinating HR-related programs, events and projects.
  • Manages Leave of Absence (LOA), Flex Work Schedule and Workers Comp process for the college. Ensures that forms are correctly filled out and any documents needed have been obtained. Informs Office of the Provost and/or Central HR of requested leaves. Maintains the college LOA tracking log.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional human resource experience.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience working in a Human Resources Department, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with high level faculty.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and as a member of a team quickly build strong working relationships, demonstrate a high-level of integrity, and establish a proactive approach to customer service.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills are required.
