About the Position:
The Manager of Inclusive Education will provide advanced, complex, and varied leadership in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of educational programs and events across the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) spectrum for staff, faculty, students, and alumni. These educational programs and events will align with Mason’s Strategic Plan, Inclusive Excellence Plans, and Anti-Racism & Inclusive Excellence Initiative. The Manager of Inclusive Education will join the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which has an ongoing commitment to fostering a community that is bias-free, anti-racist, diverse, equitable and inclusive. This position will play a significant role in promoting inclusive excellence and will support and work in collaboration with University Life, Human Resources and Payroll, Faculty Affairs and Development, the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning, the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being, and the Center for Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation.
Responsibilities:
- Serve in a central role charged with coordination and delivery of inclusive education across George Mason University;
- Direct a range of educational programming and custom workshops, training, and webinars in partnership with university leadership;
- Create and conduct educational development focused on diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism for staff, faculty, students and alumni;
- Develop educational impact assessment and evaluations for divisional educational programs focused on organizational capacity for inclusive excellence;
- Lead and develop institutional efforts to educate on skills and awareness focused on anti-racism and inclusive excellence concepts, competency, and dialogue skills;
- Assess and evaluate anti-racism and inclusive excellence frameworks with the intention of increasing awareness, competencies, and knowledge;
- Work towards furthering existing and developing new initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion;
- Remain current with DEI trends in higher education and industry;
- Attend and present at local and national conferences, identifying ways to amplify and enhance the profile of the George Mason University;
- Provide a visible presence of support by attending events sponsored by cultural organizations and departments across George Mason University with a focus on building an inclusive campus;
- Operate well within environments with little or shifting structures of precedence; and
- Collaborate with colleagues throughout the university who contribute to the goal of supporting anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence.
Essential job functions:
- Employ a consultative and collaborative approach with university leaders in order to expand and sustain institutional capacity;
- Collaborate with administrative and academic units and faculty on developing strategies for a diverse and inclusive campus community for all students;
- Assist the Vice President for DEI in the development and implementation of institution-wide Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence (ARIE) policies and procedures;
- Collaborate with VP for DEI to develop and implement institution-wide ARIE best practices;
- Assist in the development and facilitation of ARIE workshops and training for students, faculty, and staff;
- Collaborate with VP for University Life to create campus-wide inclusive programming for students and student organizations, including leadership training and orientation programming;
- Collaborate with Faculty Affairs and Development in the Office of the Provost to create professional development and educational opportunities for instructional and research faculty and professional and administrative faculty around historically marginalized groups (including but not limited to the African American/Black communities, Hispanic/Latino/Latina communities, Native/Indigenous communities, LGBTQ+/Non-Binary/Gender Queer communities, people with disabilities, and others);
- Collaborate with Faculty Affairs and Development and other units on diversity mentorship programs; and
- Supervise work-study students.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Organizational Development, Conflict Resolution, or related field or a Bachelor’s degree accompanied by some (generally two (2) years) of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Considerable (generally five (5) years) experience developing DEI educational materials and initiatives;
- Capable of infusing values around anti-racism, access, diversity, equity and inclusion into communities, programs, and activities;
- Knowledge of current research and best practices in anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion;
- Ability to form relationships, build bridges and bring others together around a common goal;
- Effective interpersonal, consensus-building, facilitation and a collaborative approach to working with others;
- Possess a high level of cultural competency, responsiveness, humility, and sensitivity;
- Advanced and effective project management skills and the ability to work independently and with a variety of constituents, establish and manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines;
- Ability to design and implement data-driven monitoring and evaluation systems for tracking and analyzing the success of university-wide DEI training and education program outcomes;
- Effective problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, and decision-making skills;
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential topics with a high degree of professionalism; and
- Ability to prepare and present written and oral presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate Degree in Education, Organizational Development, or related field;
- Relevant administrative experience directly in higher education OR non-profit and/or public sector organization in related field such as Human Resource Management or Training and Development; and
- Experience in the successful development and implementation of culturally-responsive educational and training programs with strong presentation and facilitation skills.
