Qualifications: Candidates must have a graduate degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. Demonstrated ability or experience in teaching lectures and labs is especially desirable. Candidates should also have experience in or demonstrated understanding of social justice education or initiatives, or training in diversity and inclusion, and strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy. The Department values candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and an ability to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse population of colleagues and students. Mentoring by our experienced tenure-track faculty is provided.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities of visiting faculty include teaching lectures, discussions, and labs for general chemistry and/or organic chemistry. Other teaching duties may be assigned, depending on departmental need and the candidate's qualifications. A typical teaching load is about 12 assigned teaching hours per semester.
Salary: The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Department/Division:
The GVSU Department of Chemistry is committed to high quality undergraduate education, offering Bachelor's degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as a concentration in Chemistry Education and a Green Chemistry Certificate. We currently have almost 50 full time faculty and staff and serve over 200 chemistry and biochemistry majors along with students from a number of other science majors. We strive to contribute to a chemically literate society through teaching (with classrooms, labs, and research), scholarship, and service.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is the largest college at Grand Valley, offering over 50 bachelor degrees and a growing number of advanced degrees in the natural and mathematical sciences, the fine arts and humanities, and the social sciences.
