James Madison University is accepting applications for the Assistant Vice President for Business Services within the Division of Administration and Finance. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President for Administration and Finance. Primary responsibilities include the leadership and management of the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, Facilities Management, Food Services, the JMU Bookstore, Parking, and Business Services (Card Services/Copy Centers/Postal Services).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibilities include the leadership and management of the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, Facilities Management, Food Services, the JMU Bookstore, Parking, and Business Services (Card Services/Copy Centers/Postal Services).
- Ensures that these areas operate in compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations as well as university policies and procedures.
- Reviews and monitors sales, inventory and operating cost where applicable.
- Establishes and maintains budget controls to insure operations remain self sufficient and meet revenue reserve where applicable.
- Provides appropriate financial reports and analysis to the university senior management.
- Contract administrator for the dining, bookstore, exclusive beverage, and class ring contracts.
- Develops and implements a long-range strategic plan for those units reporting to this position, which aligns with the university’s overall strategic plan.
- Analyzes projected enrollment and initiates actions for expansion and upgrading of operations and facilities to meet future requirements.
- Investigates and evaluates potential sources of business revenue and makes recommendations to the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
- Creates a work environment to further positive employee relations, insures efficient and effective deployment of human resources.
- Works closely with university committees, faculty, staff and students in assessing services, developing guidelines and directing change.
- Assists the Vice President for Administration and Finance with preparation and presentations of the Finance and Physical Development Committee of the Board of Visitors, special projects and monitoring of auxiliary service construction projects under employee’s supervision.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative or financial services experience in most or all of the areas of responsibility.
- A demonstrated ability to successfully lead, preferably in higher education, and the skills to develop leaders, along with the ability to project a strong positive image of the University with parents, students, faculty, staff and others, including community and government leaders.
- Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills
- An ability to work effectively and collegially within a large complex university environment and negotiate with a wide range of constituencies.
Preferred:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
