Job Description Summary |
This position will begin on or about November 25, 2019.
Shift will be 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday from mid August through mid May and when classes are in session.
Shift will be 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, mid May through mid August when classes are not in session.
This position requires journeyman level, electrical work in the installation, alteration, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
This position is an essential position and the employee is to be present on all scheduled work days regardless of weather conditions and/or other unforeseen circumstances

Essential Duties |
- Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs commercial electrical systems and equipment for power and lighting at a state owned institution.
- Makes repairs to electrical motors, controllers, switchboard panels, lights, power circuits and electrical generators.
- Bends conduit, pulls wires, runs power, data and fiber optic cables.
- Maintains and repairs commercial equipment such as unit heaters, fans, floor scrubber, circulating pumps.
- Maintains and repairs commercial kitchen equipment such as walk in and reach in refrigeration units, food mixers, slicers, dishwashers and other electrical equipment and appliances at state-owned food service institutions.
- Installs, inspects, troubleshoots and maintains emergency generators.
- Lend an occasional hand to the grounds crew, i.e. tarp floors, move bleachers, shovel snow and special event set ups.
- Performs related work as required.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, maintain and locate defects in a variety of electrical systems and equipment.
- Operate any/all equipment used in the electrical trade.
- Care for and use standard tools, equipment and testing devices of the electrical trade.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
- Operate an automobile or pickup truck as required.
- Maintain an effective relationship with superiors and other employees.
- Ability to work overtime.
- Ability to shovel snow.
- Ability to climb a ladder.
- Lift, climb, bend and kneel in order to complete assigned tasks.
- Responds to emergency service calls 24/7 and makes necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Employees in this classification are designated as essential employees in accordance with Commonwealth Management Directive 530.17. As such, the employee is to be present on all scheduled work days regardless of weather conditions, emergency circumstances, or other reasons.

Specific Duties |
- Makes estimates of time and materials necessary for specific jobs and draws materials from stock room.
- Locates and corrects power failures, short and open circuits on a variety of voltages and equipment.
- Troubleshoots services and maintains electric motors, relays, switches and motor controls.
- At times may functions as a lead worker over employees by assigning work, providing assistance, conducting on-the-job training and reviewing the work for adherence to standards.
- Sees that all equipment used is operating safely and that work area and equipment are kept clean and orderly. Adheres to all University policies and rules on safety, fire protection, good housekeeping, work practices and personal conduct.
- Maintain knowledge of the means, methods, materials, procedures, tools and equipment appropriate to the operation area to which assigned.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade including medium voltage work.
- Maintaining knowledge of current codes, rules and regulations in the electrical and building trades for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. (NEC, NFPA and IBCO).
- Must interpret and work from wiring diagrams technical sketches and blueprints.
- Understand and follow written or verbal instructions.
- Make routine decisions in the absence of on-site supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) |
Four years of experience in the electrical trade, or completion of any approved apprenticeship;
OR
the equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- A high school diploma and/or a general equivalency diploma.
- Must possess a valid PA driver’s license by the date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Four years of experience in the journeyman level electrical trade work, or the equivalent combination of experience and formal training that affords the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Demands |
- Position may require hand dexterity to grasp and handle material and equipment for the job.
- Position may require the ability to lift 50 lbs. or less on a regular basis.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.
