Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world’s pre-eminent research universities, seeks a collaborative, results-driven leader to serve as the Chief Officer for Business and Digital Transformation (COBDT).

Reporting to MIT’s Executive Vice President and Treasurer (EVPT), the Chief Officer for Business and Digital Transformation is a member of the EVPT senior leadership team. The Chief Officer is a strategic leader responsible for defining and evolving digital strategy in close collaboration with the Vice President (VP) for Information Systems and Technology (IS&T). The Chief Officer is responsible for building and leading a team – the Office of Business and Digital Transformation – that will work collaboratively with MIT’s Schools and the College, departments, laboratories and centers (DLCs), and administrative areas to advance business priorities through digital enablement. They will lead EVPT efforts to optimize enterprise-wide processes, modernize business systems, and improve capabilities that will enable smooth delivery of administrative services.

The Chief Officer will have primary responsibility for the implementation of foundational systems, including the next generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform for MIT. They will work to identify and redesign priority business processes to fully leverage digital solutions, removing barriers to effectively delivering administrative services. In collaboration with the EVPT leadership team and senior leaders across the academic and research areas, the Chief Officer will develop a framework for evaluating service delivery models for the administrative functions, presenting opportunities to streamline processes and service delivery. They will partner with Institute leaders to develop and evaluate opportunities to advance delivery of administrative services across the academic and research areas, experimenting with structures that will enhance business services. With a creative problem-solving focus, the Chief Officer for Business and Digital Transformation will drive comprehensive improvements and performance commensurate with the best industry standards, leveraging the best digital platforms and tools.

The Chief Officer will play a pivotal role in partnering with the EVPT, senior leadership, and a wide range of Institute stakeholders to review and evaluate business processes and identify opportunities to improve and streamline business and technology performance with an eye toward delivering top quality customer service.
