Thank you for your interest in working for Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (Legal Aid). Legal Aid is a non-profit law firm with offices in Minneapolis, St. Cloud, and Willmar. Our mission is to advocate for the legal rights of disadvantaged people to have safe, healthy, and independent lives in strong communities. Legal Aid provides free civil legal representation to clients with low incomes and seniors throughout 21 counties in central Minnesota. The Minneapolis office primarily serves clients who live in Hennepin County. The Minnesota Disability Law Center (MDLC) is a separate branch of Legal Aid which is a statewide program that receives federal funding to serve as Minnesota’s Protection and Advocacy system for persons with disabilities. The main office is in Minneapolis with other MDLC offices in Duluth, Fertile, and Mankato. Legal Aid is supported by funding from the State of Minnesota, the federal government, local governments, the United Way, foundations, local law firms and corporations, etc. Legal Aid enjoys a good rapport with, and strong support from the organized bar. Legal Aid does not receive funds from the Legal Services Corporation.
Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (Legal Aid) is seeking a full-time attorney for its St. Cloud office. Legal Aid's St. Cloud office provides civil representation to low-income people in nine central Minnesota counties. Senior Law and Health Care Outreach are provided in additional counties. The office receives funding from a variety of public and private sources and enjoys strong support from the organized bar. St. Cloud is a city of 60,000 and is located 65 miles northwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. There are three area colleges, community theaters, a thriving arts community, and easy access to state parks and the Lake Wobegon Bike Trail.
This attorney will provide representation on poverty law issues, including providing representation on a variety of civil legal issues to victims involved with the new Mille Lacs Band Domestic Violence Court and to other low-income people on family law issues. Representation of low-income individuals can include service work, complex litigation, policy advocacy, outreach, and community education as appropriate to client, project, and office needs.
Salary: $50,000-$52,128 upon bar admission, depends on experience. Salary based on Legal Aid's salary schedule. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, family medical, life, and short-term and long-term disability insurance.

Applicants must be licensed in Minnesota or taking the July Minnesota Bar Examination, eligible for admission by reciprocity, or get temporary pre-exam admission. Applicants must also have:
- Concern for the needs and rights of low-income persons and victims of domestic violence.
- Second language ability, particularly Spanish or Somali, is a plus.
- Ability to work positively within a law office, supporting co-workers while focusing on high-quality service to clients.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and writing skills.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Windows and Office is required.
- Ability to work in partnership with staff from other organizations serving the client population.
- Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences, are pluses.
- Experience serving residents of Mille Lacs County is a plus.
