Development and Financial Aid Specialist

Job Description    
New River Community College (NRCC) is a comprehensive community college located in the New River Valley of Virginia. The Development and Financial Aid Specialist duties include:

  • Work in partnership with financial aid manager in administration of NRCC’s ACCE (Access to Community College Education) and NRCC Educational Foundation Scholarships.
  • Develop and maintain online application for ACCE program.
  • Serve as ACCE liaison to area high schools and point of contact for ACCE inquiries.
  • Manage ACCE student invoices and ACCE invoice database.
  • Serve as the primary contact for ACCE Community Service Coordinators and assist Community Coordinators as needed.
  • Coordinate and present ACCE information at local high schools for annual senior and parent meetings.
  • Manage with confidentiality the ACCE acceptance process.
  • Ensure confidentiality of donor, student scholarship and financial aid data.
  • Assist with preparation for Foundation events including board meetings and annual scholarship recognition luncheon.
  • Work with public relations staff to develop publicity, advertising and material design, production and distribution for special events on and off campus.
  • Maintain donor databases.
  • Continuously develop new on-line giving opportunities.
  • Provide oversight of events and marketing budgets.
  • Cultivate and expand sponsorship development and fulfillment.
  • Maintain Foundation website through Web Services staff.
  • Promote scholarship program in-house including speaking to classes.
  • Develop initiative for campaigns/events and assist in planning and implementing strategic fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of current and past donor relationships.
  • Manage and monitor college event concert ticket sales.
  • Assist president’s office with special events.
  • Assist other staff in the Foundation Office, the Executive Director of the Educational Foundation and the Financial Aid Manager with duties as assigned.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of event planning and fund-raising strategies.
  • Ability to use various computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments and meet deadlines while working effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and good presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a confidential and professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing or related field or an equivalent combination of training and work experience to satisfy educational requirement.
  • Experience in fundraising and/or event management.
  • Knowledge of student financial aid processes.
  • Knowledge of fundraising/donor and fundraising/financial software.
  • Experience in grant writing
