Information Technology Instructor

New River Community College is a two-year state institution of higher education operating under a statewide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body.

Provide leadership with one other full-time CS/IT faculty member for the Information Technology academic programs. Teach information technology courses to students as assigned; write course plans; develop courses, including online, hands-on, hybrid, and Hyflex courses; assist in the acquisition of related instructional materials and supplies; and recommend curricular changes. In addition to teaching, assume advising responsibilities; assist the department and division with administrative and/or committee work; participate in department-, division-, and college-wide discussion and meetings; and complete other duties as assigned. Each semester, teach a minimum of 15 semester hours for day, evening, and/or online classes, both on campus and at off-campus sites as needed, and maintain a minimum of 10 office hours per week. KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in information technology or related field; with at least 18 graduate semester hours in information technology.
  • Experience or training in areas such as cybersecurity, hardware/software troubleshooting, Windows/Linux administration, system virtualization/containerization, cloud computing, networking, and technical support/help desk principles. Other required qualifications include:
  • Commitment to and ability to implement instructional strategies that foster student retention and student success.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in teaching/learning situations both orally and in written form.
  • Ability/potential to use computerized/electronic classrooms.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and the public.
  • Fairness and flexibility in understanding and working with a wide variety of students.
  • Willingness to develop and teach online, hybrid, traditional face-to-face, and Hyflex courses.
  • Commitment to high school dual enrollment program
  • Commitment to using course assessment and program effectiveness methodologies.
  • Commitment to enhance working relationships with local industries.

Finalists will be required to present a sample teaching lesson. A background investigation will be conducted on the selected candidate.

Additional Considerations
Minimum two years occupational experience as an information technology professional with experience in information technology management utilizing management tools such as Azure Active Directory, Amazon Web Services Identity Access Management, Google Cloud, or on-premises Microsoft Active Directory. Experience managing and providing hardware, application, and network support in a medium to large environment. Experience in developing course curricula. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization. Current knowledge of industry practices, trends, and issues.
