Network Engineer I

(2 positions)

Full-time, Regular, Exempt Position


Networkmaine, a unit of the University of Maine System, is seeking to fill two Network Engineer I positions. These full-time regular positions are part of a team that is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and configuration of network equipment at all Networkmaine supported locations across the state, with a primary focus on locations north of Augusta. Incumbents in the Network Engineer I position also conduct assigned projects involving emerging network related technologies. Network Engineer I’s interface with all offices of the University and perform functions independently under general directions.  


These positions are based out of the Orono campus of the University of Maine, with a hybrid work schedule depending on the successful applicant. Some on-call and off-hours work is required.


Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the annual salary range is low to mid $60s plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or three to five years of technical education and/or experience with data network services
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Understanding of network architectures
  • Knowledge of and experience with the operation of data networks
  • Fundamental understanding of network security
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and supporting a network using Cisco products
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to program in a high-level language
