Athletic Trainer
JOB SUMMARY: Provide Athletic Trainer Services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act. The Athletic Trainer must have a bachelors or masters degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program and pass a comprehensive test administered by the Board of Certification (ATC certified). Once certified, the Trainer must maintain their certification through ongoing continuing education requirements.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide physical medicine and rehabilitation services to West Branch ASD athletes
- Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests and away varsity football games. (If a conflict arises between an away varsity football game and a home contest, the varsity football event will supersede.)
- Provide on-site recognition, evaluation and immediate treatment of illnesses and injuries
- Facilitate and perform rehabilitation and reconditioning
- Coordinate care with physicians and other health professionals
- Maintain appropriate general treatment orders to be reviewed annually and approved by the team physician
- Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and provide insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician
- Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents
- Schedule and be present for pre-participation sports physicals
- Determine the athlete’s readiness to participate in sports
- Provide the coaches and athletic director with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete under district and state rules and regulations
- Maintain additional certifications: hydration testing; concussion evaluation; others (as mandated)
- Promote safe and appropriate practice techniques
- Advise on the selection, fit, function and maintenance of athletic equipment
- Participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive emergency action plan
- Develop injury and illness prevention strategies
- Develop annual budget for Athletic Trainer’s office, including detailed supplies requisition for each upcoming school year
- Perform other job-related duties as required by the Athletic Director
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training; current ATC certification. Must provide current Act 34 Criminal Clearance, Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance, and Federal Fingerprinting. Must obtain a physical and Tuberculin test, with resulting forms provided to the district.
